Pilgrimage route from the Middle Weser via the Weser Mountains, the Vogler, the Solling and the Eichsfeld.
A new path on old traces:
In 1163, 13 monks of the Cistercian order from Volkenroda made their way north. They founded a new monastery in Loccum. In 2005, the two former Cistercian monasteries of Loccum and Volkenroda were reconnected by a pilgrimage route.

On around 300 kilometers, it follows a varied natural landscape along the Weser, Leine and Unstrut rivers. It leads over the Weser Mountains, the Vogler, the Solling and through the Eichsfeld.

Over the centuries, the Cistercian reform order has bequeathed us numerous monasteries, ruins and traces along the route. Along with countless other monuments worth seeing, they bring the history of faith to life. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover is responsible for the overall project as an opportunity to experience Christian tradition from an ecumenical perspective.

What you should definitely consider before setting off:
On the homepage www.loccum-volkenroda.de, you will find lots of useful information about the route, the "reliable offers" from the parishes and monasteries along the way as well as tourist and parish accommodation options.

On the homepage, a navigation system ("Pilgrim's Way Navigator") will guide you to the places and sections of the route that interest you, including the sights and local logistics, in no time at all. This allows you to individually compile and print out the individual stages in advance with the reliable offers of the parishes and monasteries, the local services (transport connections, restaurants and shopping facilities) and information on tourist contacts.

The hiking guide "Pilgerweg Loccum-Volkenroda" provides orientation along the way. Maps and route descriptions divide the main trail into 17 daily stages, while a section provides information on the three side trails "Kloster Mariensee" (near Steinhuder Meer), "Kloster Möllenbeck" (in Weserbergland) and "Klosterpfad" (in Thuringia).

It is advisable to plan the stages well in advance and book overnight accommodation. Some of the guesthouses, inns and hotels are not open all year round or are quickly fully booked in the popular pilgrimage months.

Accommodation directories are available in paper form and as a file for download. Individual accommodation as well as pilgrimages can be booked as a package deal via the local or regional tourism associations.

Church-run pilgrim hostels are not available everywhere. They are deliberately simply furnished and are also suitable for young pilgrim groups. Church congregations along the way are generally happy to offer hospitality - to the extent that this is possible on site.

Please bear in mind: many of these services as part of the "reliable offers" are made possible by voluntary work and cannot be requested spontaneously, but must be requested and processed in advance.
The route follows the Weser, Leine and Unstrut rivers for around 300 km.
