The stainless steel sculpture by Hans Jürgen Zimmermann from Hanover is one of the artist's preliminary designs for the stage sets of the ballet version of "Undine" at the Hanover Opera House. The author of Undine, Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué, was stationed as an officer near Bückeburg in 1796. It is therefore considered certain that the story of the mermaid took place at Lake Steinhude.
The sculpture was erected by the Steinhuder Meer Tourist Office in 1996.
